Kazakhstan plans to apply for membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2025.

This is reported by the Report with reference to the message of the Government of Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baybazarov held a meeting with William Thompson, Head of the OECD Eurasia Division. The sides discussed the implementation of the joint Action Plan of the Government of Kazakhstan and the OECD Secretariat until 2025 and cooperation within the framework of the OECD Eurasia Competitiveness Programme”.

W. Thompson noted the positive experience of interaction between the OECD and Kazakhstan. The initiative of the OECD to open a representative office in Kazakhstan was also announced at the meeting. To date, the OECD has regional offices in China, Indonesia, Ukraine and Greece.

“Our country has been a stable partner of the OECD for over 15 years and a leader in Central Asia in the implementation of its recommendations. Kazakhstan plans to apply to join this authoritative international organisation as a full member in 2025.”

The OECD was established in 1961 to promote economic growth and world trade. Currently, 34 countries are members of the OECD.
