Kazakhstan serves as a continental bridge along the East-West and North-South transport corridors.
Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vasilenko said at a briefing with journalists, Trend reported on Monday.
“Our geographical position has enabled us to serve as a commercial and diplomatic bridge between East and West. In cooperation with our neighbours in Central Asia and beyond, as well as partners such as the EU, Kazakhstan is taking advantage of its geographical location and geo-economic potential to develop land links between Asia and Europe. Kazakhstan and Central Asia have clear advantages in connecting distant markets and act as a continental bridge along the East-West and North-South transport corridors.”
Around 80 per cent of land cargo flows between Europe and Asia pass through Kazakhstan.
“Thanks to joint action, the volume of traffic along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route or the Central Corridor has tripled in the last two years and is expected to increase even more in the next five years,” Vasilenko emphasised.
It should be noted that today 13 international transport corridors pass through Kazakhstan, 5 of them by rail and 8 by road.
In addition, over the last 10 years, about $30 billion has been invested in Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
In addition, at least 40 billion euros will be invested in the next five years to implement major infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan’s transport sector.
