Japanese Defense Minister General Nakatani and Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro agreed to establish a strategic dialogue between the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Philippine military to counter security threats posed by China.
They also agreed to establish a high-level framework to further enhance defense equipment and technology cooperation, Nakatani said at a joint press conference after meeting with Teodoro in Manila. “In the face of an increasingly serious security environment, we firmly agreed that defense cooperation should be raised to a higher level,” the Japanese defense minister said. Teodoro said the two countries “have a common cause to resist any unilateral attempt to reshape the global order without the consent of the participants in the global order and any attempt to reshape international law by force.”
