A group of Japanese governors recently visited India to deepen economic cooperation and capitalize on the country’s young population potential.

India, with its rapidly growing economy and large market, offers an important opportunity for Japan, which faces the risk of economic contraction due to an aging population and declining birth rates. Japanese governors aim to promote the strengths of their provinces and foster business and human resource cooperation. In early February, Ehime Governor Tokihiro Nakamura visited Chennai, one of India’s major cities, with around 80 business people. Nakamura, who held business meetings with companies and met with university students studying Japanese, pointed to India’s young population and growth potential and said, “There is no doubt that the country will develop rapidly.”
