The UK is not ready for military action, but there is no need for it yet.

Deputy Defence Secretary James Heappey wrote the following statements in an article for The Telegraph newspaper

“Increasing rumours of war may seem alarming, and let me be clear right away: I don’t think we are on the brink of a third world war, but I agree with Defence Minister Grant Shapps that since the start of the conflict in Ukraine we have moved from the post-Cold War era to a new pre-war era,” he said.

According to Heappey, the same rules apply to warmongering as on the playing field: You don’t pick a fight you’re not sure you’re going to win. Heappey argues that strategic resilience lies at the heart of British sovereignty.

“Sovereignty is the ability to make our own choices independent of the coercion of other states. So to be sovereign, we need the resilience to take our destiny in our own hands,” he said.
