Hungary aims to accelerate Serbia’s accession process to the European Union during its presidency of the Council of the EU, which begins on 1 July.

This was stated by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto, the Report reported, citing TASS.

According to Szijjarto, Hungary has made negotiations with the Western Balkan countries on their accession to the EU one of the priorities of its presidency.

“We want to organise intergovernmental conferences with the five Western Balkan candidates, open new accession chapters with Serbia, close at least seven chapters in negotiations with Montenegro and open the first chapters with Albania,” Szijjártó said.
