Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday met Raşit Meredow, the Deputy Chair of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, to discuss ties between the two countries.
The officials discussed “positively” assessed relations at the political level, noting the importance of high-level visits, the Georgian Parliament said.
The meeting highlighted achievements and prospects for development of ties in trade, economy, parliamentary institutions, transport, energy, tourism and culture.
The sides also discussed cooperation within international transport and transit corridors, pointing out the Lapis Lazuli trade route connecting Afghanistan and South Asia countries to Europe via road and rail and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route running through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and further through the Black Sea to Europe.
The officials also noted the Black Sea submarine electricity cable project, a new transmission route to deliver green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe, with Meredow noting Georgia’s “strategic role” in the effort.
He also extended his gratitude to the Georgian side for supporting Turkmenistan on international platforms and confirmed his “firm” support for the territorial integrity of Georgia, while the parties also emphasised the importance of regional peace and stability.
