Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze Visited Kazakhstan

During his official visit to Kazakhstan, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Kazakh President Kassym Jömert Tokayev and Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov. During the talks, issues such as further strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries, increasing trade volume and promoting freight transportation by developing the Central Corridor were discussed.

Within the framework of the visit, the sides discussed ways to further develop the existing cooperation between Georgia and Kazakhstan. Kobakhidze said that Georgia has had an important position on trade routes throughout history and that they aim to revitalize this role today. Noting that Georgia can play an important role in the development of the Central Corridor due to its strategic location, the Georgian leader emphasized that joint projects in the fields of transportation and logistics should be implemented. In particular, the issue of increasing the transportation of Kazakh energy resources through Georgia’s transportation infrastructure and Black Sea ports was discussed. It was stated that the effective use of Georgia’s ports and logistics infrastructure in this process would serve the economic interests of both countries. 

Prime Minister Kobakhidze emphasized the importance of closer cooperation with Kazakhstan in the field of transit transportation and invited Kazakh investors to invest in Georgia. Noting that the Georgian government offers attractive opportunities for investors, Kobakhidze expressed his country’s desire to further strengthen its relations with Kazakhstan in terms of economic growth and regional integration. At the end of the visit, the sides agreed on the need to take concrete steps for the development of economic and trade relations. New agreements could be signed in the future to deepen cooperation, especially in the transportation, logistics and energy sectors.
