Georgian Deputy Economy Minister Genadi Arveladze on Thursday participated in an informal meeting of a transport ministerial held as part of the European Union’s annual Connecting Europe Days event in Brussels, Belgium.
Strengthening the financing and sustainability of the trans-European transport network was the main theme of the ministerial.
Arveladze said the inclusion of Georgia in the trans-European transport network was an “important achievement” that created a “solid foundation” for the development of compatible transport links and the country’s integration into the European transport system.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister emphasised the “growing role” of Georgia in connecting Europe with Asia and the importance of developing direct traffic on the Black Sea for expanding access to markets and ensuring diversification of routes.
He also drew attention to the ongoing major infrastructure projects in Georgia, such as modernisation of the domestic railways, construction of the East-West Highway and the development of the Anaklia deep sea port project.
