Italy will convene a meeting of defence ministers for the first time as chair of the Group of Seven (G7).
ANSA news agency quoted Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto as saying.
‘The G7 defence meeting will take place for the first time under our presidency,’ Crozetto said.
The G7 defence chiefs meeting will be held in Naples on 18-20 October.
Referring to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s decision to appoint a defence commissioner, Crozetto said Europe does not have the capacity to create a defence system equal to NATO. It is therefore necessary to create a European wing of the alliance.
