The European Union has allocated €6 million (about 82 billion soms) to the Uzbek government for agricultural reforms, Trend reported.

The grant aims to support the implementation of the National Strategy for Food Security and Healthy Eating, as well as programme budgeting guidelines.

The agreement between the government of Uzbekistan and the EU provides for the allocation of a total of EUR 20 million to support the implementation of the Agricultural Development Strategy for the period from 2020 to 2030. As part of this support, additional grant funds are expected in the current and next year.

The main objective is to help Uzbekistan transition to a market-oriented and sustainable agricultural sector that can create more jobs and income for the population, as well as provide access to safe and nutritious food.

Charlotte Adrian, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, noted that family farms play an important role in Uzbekistan’s economy and are an important source of employment. The grants will focus on reforms to help these farms adapt to the changing climate, protect the environment and produce healthy food.
