The People’s Liberation Army will conduct a live-fire exercise from Tuesday to Thursday on the Chinese side of the China-Myanmar border, according to its annual training plan.

The exercise was announced in a notice released by the Yunnan provincial government on Monday morning, though it did not specify which unit of the PLA would be carrying out the drill.

The notice detailed the specific areas where the exercise will take place, including parts of Ruili city and Zhenkang county in the border province in Southwest China, and advised vehicles and personnel entering these areas to comply with traffic controls.

The Southern Theater Command of the PLA later shared the notice on its official WeChat account on Monday.

Earlier on Monday morning, the Southern Theater Command announced that it had dispatched ground forces to the front-line border areas of Ruili and Zhenkang to conduct armed patrols and joint air-ground patrols.

In a statement, the theater command said the patrols aim to test the rapid mobility, multidimensional control and joint strike capabilities of its forces, ensuring the security and stability of the border areas.
