Top diplomats from China, Japan and South Korea pledged to enhance communication and mutual trust at a time of slow global economic recovery and a complex international situation. The three countries also pledged to expand and deepen cooperation.
The pledge was made during the 11th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Tokyo on Saturday, March 23. The meeting was attended by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae Yul. The three ministers reaffirmed their commitment to creating a favorable atmosphere and the necessary conditions for the 10th Trilateral Leaders’ Summit. Speaking at the press conference, Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya emphasized the importance of future cooperation. Iwaya stressed the importance of countries getting to know each other better, cooperating to shape and protect people’s livelihoods, and all generations making efforts to solve common problems. South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae Yul said that the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) is a symbol of the cooperation mechanism between Beijing, Tokyo, and Seoul. Stating that he sees the signing of the protocol on the extension of the Secretary General’s term as an opportunity, Cho expressed his hope that the TCS will explore more meaningful projects and play a leading role in promoting trilateral cooperation. Cho said he believes that through mutual trust and beneficial cooperation, the three neighboring countries can build a more peaceful and prosperous future together and help heal the wounds of the past.
