The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), China’s top political advisory body, held its third plenary meeting of the ongoing annual session on Sunday. Wang Huning, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting. At the meeting, 14 national political advisors shared their views on a wide range of issues. Senior officials from the CCP Central Committee and the State Council were invited to the meeting to hear these proposals.

Tu Haiming praised recent positive developments in Hong Kong, saying they once again prove that the territory can always rely on the support of the motherland. Tu emphasized that for the stable and sustained success of the “one country, two systems” policy, cultural trust and national identity awareness among local residents should be enhanced. Zhang Guanghan called for the rapid establishment of a comprehensive cultural heritage protection framework. Zhang said that more efforts should be made to improve laws and regulations, develop new inspection methods and raise public awareness. Efforts should also be made to ensure that the whole society participates in, supports and promotes the systematic protection and unified supervision of cultural heritage. Zhao Yingmin called for measures to modernize environmental management systems and capacities. Zhao added that efforts should be made to reduce carbon emissions, mitigate pollution, and coordinate green development and economic growth.
