Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press conference on Wednesday that China-US trade relations are based on mutual interactions and Beijing will resolutely resist Washington’s arbitrary pressure.
“We have stated our position on more than one occasion. We always believe that both sides should address each other’s concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of equality and mutual respect,” Mao said at the press conference, responding to a question on whether China has adequately communicated with the US administration on trade and other economic issues. Emphasizing that China-US trade relations are based on mutual interactions, Mao said that cooperation should be mutually beneficial and result in win-win outcomes. “If the US continues to pressure China, the Chinese side will definitely take countermeasures,” the spokesperson said, reiterating Beijing’s determination on this issue. Mao’s remarks are a response to the recent escalation of US trade restrictions and economic pressure on China. Tensions between the two countries in the areas of trade, technology and security are having a significant impact on the global economy.
