At its plenary meeting on Friday, China’s State Council reviewed key speeches delivered by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, during the “Two Meetings” and set out its main tasks for this year.
Premier Li Qiang, who chaired the meeting, said China is facing increasingly complex and volatile challenges, stressing that the government must act swiftly and decisively, proactively approach problems and achieve concrete results. Government departments should comprehensively implement the goals and tasks set out in this year’s government work report, Li said. He said strong incentive mechanisms should be established to support development. He pointed out that special initiatives to boost consumption should be launched, a national integrated market should be built, the “AI Plus” initiative should be promoted, and the transformation and modernization of the manufacturing sector should be accelerated. He also called for advancing new urbanization with a people-oriented approach, cultivating a skilled workforce and improving one-stop government services. Premier Li stressed that more efforts should be made to expand high-standard opening up, stabilize foreign trade and investment, and build resilience against external shocks.
