Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Beijing on Thursday, stressing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations for global stability and mutual development.
In the context of current international challenges, Li said China and France, as independent and responsible major countries, should add more certainty to global and bilateral development by enhancing communication and coordination. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, China and France are ready to maintain high-level contacts, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen multilateral coordination on issues such as climate change, Li said. Li stressed that as staunch advocates of free trade and multilateralism, China and France should jointly fight against protectionism and unilateralism. He called for continued cooperation with an open attitude to continuously promote economic development by utilizing their mutual economic strengths. “China has always regarded France as an important cooperation partner,” Li said, stressing the importance of deepening long-standing partnerships in areas such as aviation, space and nuclear energy. The potential for cooperation in emerging industries such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and biotechnology should also be explored, he said. Li also called for creating a fair, equal and predictable development environment for Chinese companies in the French investment market.
