An international conference titled “China-South Asia Civilization and Connectivity: History and Contemporary Issues” began in Bangladesh on Friday.
During the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen stated that this conference aligns with China’s initiative to promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. He emphasized that it reflects the shared aspirations of intellectuals in China and South Asia to enhance regional prosperity through cooperation and dialogue.
Yao highlighted that as a responsible global power and a sincere friend and reliable partner to developing countries, China promotes dialogue among civilizations, remains committed to building an open world economy, and supports developing nations in achieving self-reliant growth.
Bangladeshi Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain remarked that regional connectivity has become more critical than ever amidst unprecedented global challenges. He noted that the Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China, has been a transformative answer, enabling Bangladesh to achieve significant advancements in infrastructure, trade, and people-to-people connections.
Hossain stressed that China and South Asia form a community with a shared future, and only through mutual respect and collaboration can the region achieve sustainable development and create a poverty-free world with shared prosperity.
