Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya in Beijing on Wednesday. Highlighting that China-Japan relations are at a crucial stage of improvement and development, Li stated that China is willing to work with Japan to implement the significant consensuses reached by the leaders of the two countries.
He emphasized promoting the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations and achieving new results in pragmatic cooperation, according to Xinhua News Agency. He further underlined that China and Japan are close neighbors committed to being cooperative partners rather than threats to each other.
Iwaya expressed Japan’s readiness to strengthen exchanges at all levels, especially people-to-people connections, and to promote mutually beneficial cooperation. He also stressed improving public opinion toward each other, advancing strategic relations of mutual benefit, and building constructive and stable Japan-China relations, per Xinhua.
In addition to this meeting, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iwaya held talks on Wednesday, attending the second meeting of the High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges. During this meeting, 10 important consensuses were reached, according to a statement released by the Chinese foreign ministry.
These consensuses include promoting youth exchanges, creating platforms for exchanges between sister cities, strengthening cooperation in sports, and supporting collaboration in industries like film, music, publishing, animation, and gaming. They also emphasized cooperation in media and think tanks, fostering exchanges between women’s organizations, and jointly contributing to the Expo 2025 Osaka as a platform for communication and friendship.
