Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi commenced his first overseas visit of 2025 with a tour of Africa, continuing a 35-year diplomatic tradition. The trip aims to build on the vision outlined at last year’s Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the creation of an “all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.”

Over the past 25 years, Chinese companies have constructed 10,000 km of railways, 100,000 km of highways, 1,000 bridges, 100 ports, and 66,000 km of power lines across Africa, strengthening the continent’s infrastructure. In agriculture, China’s 24 technology centers have boosted crop yields by 30-60%, benefiting over 1 million African farmers.

China also invests in Africa’s green transition and supports key areas like poverty reduction, climate change response, and economic diversification. Integrating the Belt and Road Initiative with the African Continental Free Trade Area has created unprecedented opportunities for Africa’s integration into global value chains.

Beyond economics, the partnership emphasizes global governance reform, advocating for a more equitable and inclusive system. China’s support for the African Union’s G20 membership has amplified Africa’s voice on global issues like climate change and trade reform.

In a world dominated by power politics, the China-Africa partnership symbolizes equality, shared development, and multilateralism, offering a model for cooperation among Global South nations.
