Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly and Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc will arrive in the United States on Friday to meet with representatives of the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

According to Report, this was reported by CTV television channel.

Citing the director of communications of the head of the Ministry of Finance Jean-Sebastien Comeau, the channel specified that Joly and LeBlanc intend to continue consultations on the issues that in November Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed with Trump in his residence Mar-a-Lago (Florida).

According to Fox News, at that meeting Trump told Trudeau that he would impose import duties on goods from Canada. For his part, the Prime Minister pointed out to the future head of the American administration that such measures would kill the Canadian economy, to which Trump replied that Canada could probably become the 51st state of the United States. This phrase, the TV station pointed out, caused Trudeau to laugh nervously. Subsequently, the then Canadian Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc assured journalists that Trump had not actually threatened Canada, but was just joking.
