UN General Assembly nominates new candidate for the presidency

Former Prime Minister of Cameroon Philemon Young is a candidate for the presidency of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly (GA).

According to the American bureau of the Report, this statement was made by the representative of the President of the UN General Assembly, Monica Grealy.

According to Grealy, the General Assembly will hold a secret ballot tomorrow with the participation of representatives of 193 member states to determine the president of the next 79th session.

On the same day, the General Assembly will also hold the election of five non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, Grealy added.

It should be noted that the General Assembly is the main political body of the UN. Bringing together all member states, the Assembly is a unique platform for multilateral discussion of all international issues covered by the UN Charter.

Each of the 193 UN member states has equal voting rights in the General Assembly. It takes important decisions for the UN, including the appointment of the Secretary-General on the recommendation of the Security Council and the election of non-permanent members.
