Belarus is going to develop cooperation with the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom on radioactive waste management, Energy Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich told reporters on the sidelines of the Atomexpo international forum in Sochi.

“The parties will sign a roadmap on the sidelines of the Atomexpo forum on educating and advance training of relevant specialists for work at the burial site. The experience of Russian colleagues is critical for us at this stage and we will definitely follow it,” the minister said, cited by the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

Belarus plans to implement a large-scale project on building a republican center for radioactive waste burial, with the first stage to be commenced by 2030, Karankevich noted. Efforts of creating and developing the infrastructure for nuclear waste burial, support of operation and monitoring of this facility will also take place in cooperation with Russian counterparts.
