Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan General Zakir Hasanov received a delegation headed by Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, Commander of the Turkish Navy, who is in Azerbaijan on an official visit.
According to a statement by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry to Trend news agency, on the first day of the visit, the delegation visited the “Zəfər Park” and laid a wreath at the Victory Monument. Afterwards, the delegation went to the Honorary Hiyaban, where the graves of Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, and Zarifa Aliyeva, a well-known ophthalmologist and academician, were laid and a minute of silence was observed. The Martyrs’ Cemetery and the monument to Turkish martyrs were also visited and wreaths and flowers were laid. Minister of Defense Zakir Hasanov welcomed the Turkish delegation and stressed that the friendship and brotherhood relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are developing on the basis of mutual trust and support. General Hasanov also appreciated the high professionalism of Azerbaijani soldiers participating in international exercises organized in Turkey. Admiral Tatlıoğlu thanked for the hospitality and expressed his pleasure to be in Azerbaijan. He stated that the military cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan, which has reached the level of strategic partnership, also contributes positively to the development of the naval forces of the two countries. During the meeting, the current military cooperation between the two countries, partnerships in the field of military training and future cooperation opportunities between the Azerbaijani and Turkish Navy were discussed in detail. The delegation also met with General Bahtiyar Ersay, advisor to the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan. During the meeting, which took place in a cordial atmosphere, the positive results of the work carried out to adapt the Azerbaijani army to the model of the Turkish Armed Forces were evaluated.
