During his visit to Tehran, Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev held productive talks with Iranian President’s Political Advisor Mehdi Sanai and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The meetings held within the framework of discussing bilateral relations allowed reaching an important agreement on continuation of measures to strengthen mutual trust between Azerbaijan and Iran.
The development of Azerbaijani-Iranian relations based on the principles of peaceful coexistence, non-interference in internal affairs and good-neighborliness were the key topics of discussion. The talks also addressed issues of further cooperation within several regional and international formats, including 3+3, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), as well as other platforms contributing to the development of multilateral interaction. One of the significant topics was the role of the Agbend-Nakhchivan and North-South transport corridors, which were highlighted as important projects for both countries. These transport routes are seen as key for strengthening regional and trans-regional cooperation as well as improving economic ties between Azerbaijan, Iran and other neighboring countries.
