The 22nd meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Commission, organized to discuss cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia, was held today. The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova and the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko.
At the opening of the meeting, Chairman of the Cultural Committee of the Milli Mejlis Polad Bulbuloglu was presented an honorary badge by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation for his “contribution to the development of parliamentarism”. Within the framework of the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Azerbaijan-Russia Cooperation, the co-chairs of the commission, Deputy Chairman of the Milli Mejlis Ali Ahmadov and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Andrey Yatskin briefed on the issues on the agenda. The participants of the meeting shared their views and comments on the issues presented. Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova said that Valentina Matviyenko’s visit to Azerbaijan will give an important impetus to the relations between the parliaments of the two countries. Gafarova also underlined the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in multilateral cooperation. Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, expressed Russia’s willingness to increase educational scholarship programs for Azerbaijani students. Matviyenko also emphasized that climate change is one of the important issues on the agenda of the commission.
