Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency cleared more than 2000 hectares of landmines

The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) issued a statement last week detailing demining operations conducted from March 31 to April 6. During the week, 2000 hectares of land were cleared of mines, 107 anti-personnel mines, 13 anti-tank mines and 870 unexploded ordnance were cleared. These operations were carried out in cooperation with international partners in the districts of Terter, Agdere, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Khojavend, Lachin, Shusha, Fuzuli, Gubadli, Jabrayil and Zangilan. Since 2020, 392 people have been killed or injured as a result of landmine contamination in the region. The most recent incident took place on April 6 in the village of Galaychilar, Aghdam region, when Sabouhi Mammadov suffered leg injuries after stepping on an anti-personnel mine in a restricted area that has not yet been cleared.
