The European Commission has given a ‘positive assessment’ of the allocation to Kiev of the second tranche of the €4.1bn macro-financial aid from the European Support Fund for Ukraine. The decision must now be approved by the EU Council.
The press service of the European Commission said this, APA quoted TASS as saying.
‘The European Commission has decided that Ukraine has satisfactorily fulfilled all nine points of the reform commitments required for this payment,’ the EC said, noting that it will be transferred to Ukraine ‘after approval by the EU Council.’ The European Commission specified that the criteria used to assess ‘the reforms carried out by Kiev’ concerned ‘the fight against corruption, business conditions, labour market rules, energy market rules and environmental protection’.
The European Commission noted that Kiev will receive a total of €16.1bn after this tranche is transferred through the Ukraine Support Fund.
The approval of the second tranche of aid for Kiev was simultaneously announced on her page on social network X by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The European Support Fund for Ukraine is a €50bn programme approved at the end of 2023 for the period from 2024 to 2027. The EU raised the funds for these payments by borrowing until 2048.
