The European Commission has officially requested clarification from Hungary on the inclusion of Russians and Belarusians in the simplified long-term visa programme.
This statement was made by Ilva Johansson, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, on the social network “X”, the Report reported, citing TASS.
“I sent a letter to the Hungarian government asking for clarification. If the plans for facilitated access pose a threat, we will take action,” Johansson wrote.
At the same time, he stated that he considered Russia “a security threat” and demanded that EU countries “be more careful”. “Giving potential Russian spies and saboteurs free access to the EU would damage our common security,” he said.
Johansson published the text of the letter addressed to the Hungarian Minister of the Interior, in which he stressed that the EU imposed indiscriminate sanctions against all Russians without exception in September 2022, cancelled visa facilitation agreements and advised EU countries to tighten as much as possible “the process of issuing visas to Russians and their controls at borders”.
