2025 India Energy Week was held from 11-14 February 2025 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Center in New Delhi. It brought together more than 70,000 visitors, over 600 exhibitors, policy makers, industry leaders and key figures from the energy sector, making a significant contribution to the global energy debate. Discussions and announcements at the event highlighted India’s growing influence and commitment to the global transition to sustainable energy and its role in shaping the future of energy.
The India Energy Week event served as a platform to discuss how countries and industries can collaborate to tackle climate change and achieve net zero targets. Particular emphasis was placed on global carbon markets. It emphasized the need for international cooperation and regulatory frameworks to ensure transparency and efficiency in carbon trading. Discussions on carbon markets demonstrated their potential to support economic growth while promoting climate action.[1]
The event also showcased India’s progress in renewable energy, green hydrogen and biofuels. This is in line with India’s vision of energy self-sufficiency (Aatmanirbhar Bharat). Hardeep Puri, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, emphasized that the event generated “not just networking but concrete business deals”. He also highlighted India’s progress in biofuel production and green hydrogen initiatives, which he said are critical to reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.[2]
In his speech at India Energy Week 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the country’s goal of increasing its renewable energy capacity to 500 GW by 2030, based on the five pillars of “resource access, skilled workforce, economic strength, political stability and strategic geography”.
Despite being the world’s 5th largest economy and 3rd largest producer of solar energy, India has to import 90% of its oil, accelerating the shift away from fossil fuels through projects such as green hydrogen production (5 million tons per year), 20% ethanol blending in gasoline (end 2025) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (28 countries). However, due to economic growth and energy demand growth (25% global oil demand growth), traditional energy investments such as increasing refinery capacity by 20% and expanding natural gas infrastructure are also underway. Modi has emphasized the critical role of the energy sector in the growth of both the country and the global economy, stating that the 21st century will be India’s.[3]
India Energy Week 2025 also served as a platform to showcase the latest innovations in the energy sector. The third day of the event focused on the future of global carbon markets and discussed how these markets can evolve to effectively combat climate change. Experts stressed the need for convergence and standardization to ensure the efficiency of carbon trading mechanisms. Financial innovation was another focus, with discussions on how financing mechanisms can support the energy transition. The event highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships and innovative financing models in promoting the adoption of clean energy technologies.[4]
2025 India Energy Week concluded with a strong message of India’s growing influence in the global energy market. The event set a new precedent for energy forums around the world, showcasing India’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its leading role in the energy transition. The successful execution of the event and the high level of participation once again demonstrated India’s strategic importance in the global energy landscape.
2025 India Energy Week was a major event highlighting the country’s advances in the energy sector and its critical role in the global energy transition. Demonstrating India’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions, the event showcased both the acceleration of the transition to renewable energy and the importance of global collaborations such as carbon trading. India’s ambitions to transform its energy infrastructure are supported by both internal and external collaborations. While this event reinforced India’s leadership in the energy sector, it also served as a reminder of the need to take concrete steps to contribute to the global energy transition. India’s future energy journey will play an important role in contributing to the sustainable growth of the global economy.
