American and Ukrainian delegations met in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to discuss ceasefire parameters in Ukraine. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov stated that they participated in the talks and that the meetings were productive and goal-oriented. “We have completed our meeting with the American team,” Umerov said on the social media platform X. “We discussed critical issues, including energy.” The meeting lasted about five hours, including a break. The first part of the talks ended with a break after two hours of discussion. However, according to a source in Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s office, the talks are not yet completed and will continue after the break. The TASS correspondent reported that the Ukrainian delegation left the negotiating room. Ukrainian Defense Minister Umerov announced the start of the talks in Riyadh, noting that the delegation included energy experts and military representatives from the navy and air force.
On March 24 in Riyadh, there will also be talks between Russian and US experts on Ukraine. The Russian delegation will be headed by Senator Grigory Karasin and Sergey Beseda, Advisor to the Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB). The focus of the meeting will be the Black Sea grain initiative. US Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg announced on March 20 that indirect talks between Russian and Kiev officials in Riyadh through technical groups were aimed to be held.
