Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili held a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during her visit to Germany.

The meeting was reported by the Office of the German President, Report reported, citing Georgian media.

During the meeting, Steinmeier thanked Zurabishvili for his pro-European stance, but at the same time expressed his concern about Georgia’s backsliding on the path to EU membership.

‘The Georgian government is jeopardising a historic opportunity,’ the statement said.

Zurabishvili ‘opposes the course of the government’ and ‘supports the opposition in his country’, it said.

The Georgian president had previously visited Paris on 27 September and met with representatives of the Georgian diaspora in Berlin on 29 September. Zurabishvili will attend the Warsaw Security Forum on 1 October.
