The air base in Geilenkirchen (North Rhine-Westphalia) in western Germany has been closed due to suspicions of possible sabotage.
This was reported by the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, the Report reported, citing TASS.
The barracks were also closed, a spokesman for the regional command said. An inspection has been launched to check for possible contamination of the drinking water. The base has its own water supply. NATO reconnaissance aircraft are stationed in Geilenkirchen.
According to unconfirmed reports, the closure of a Bundeswehr barracks in the Van district of Cologne, possibly because of the testimony of a prisoner, has raised suspicions of sabotage. However, a spokesman for the regional command was initially unable to confirm this information. According to the spokesman, the security authorities are currently involved in the incident.
