Alexander Stubb will become the new President of Finland

Former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb won the second round of Finland’s presidential election with 51.6 per cent of the vote.

This was reported by Yle on the basis of the results of the counting of 100 per cent of the ballots, Report reported.

Former Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto received 48.4 per cent of the votes.

The difference between the candidates was less than 99 thousand votes. This was the smallest margin in the history of the second round of direct presidential elections.

The turnout in the second round was 70.7 per cent. In the first round, the turnout was 75 per cent.

The inauguration of the President of Finland will take place on 1 March.
