Ludger Schuknecht, Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), visited Uzbekistan to hold high-level talks, discuss projects under development and organise the AIIB Annual Meeting to be held in Samarkand in September this year.

During his visit, Ludger Shuknecht held fruitful meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade and Chairman of the AIIB Board Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Transport Ilhom Mahkamov and Deputy Foreign Minister Bobur Usmanov, Trend reported on Thursday. Among the topics of discussion were the projects of the AIIB under development, as well as the start of preparations for the Annual Meeting.

In January this year, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with AIIB President Jin Liqun at the bank’s headquarters in Beijing. During the meeting, a three-year investment programme was signed. During the Uzbek President’s visit, the key role of the AIIB in the country’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals was emphasised.

“We have successfully held constructive and productive discussions with our partners in Uzbekistan, and I am encouraged by the country’s commitment to progress and its willingness to engage in productive discussions, especially ahead of the AIIB Annual Meeting,” said Vice President Ludger Schuknecht.

It should be noted that today the AIIB’s investment portfolio in Uzbekistan is more than $ 3 billion, invested in 13 projects in the fields of energy, transport, green finance and water infrastructure.
