Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a memorandum on the implementation of the country programme 2025-2027, in which it is planned to implement projects worth $ 3.5 billion. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Trend reports.
The signing of the memorandum took place at the 57th annual meeting of the ADB Board of Directors. The delegation of Uzbekistan was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev.
The document was signed by Khurram Teshabaev, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, and Evgeny Zhukov, ADB Managing Director for Central and West Asia.
The projects included in the programme are in line with the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan-2030. The number of projects is not specified.
The bank and the Uzbek government have tentatively identified development projects for the coming years, which are updated annually by analysing medium-term goals, the ADB office in Tashkent said in a statement.
ADB will focus its efforts on supporting financing, knowledge and innovation in energy, transport, water, urban infrastructure, agriculture, natural resource management, finance, public sector, education and health.
The previous country programme envisaged the implementation of 27 projects worth $2.8 billion between 2022 and 2024.
Uzbekistan has been an ADB member since 1995 and the bank’s representative office in Uzbekistan was opened in 1998. ADB’s total disbursements under Uzbekistan’s sovereign portfolio amounted to $12 billion. In 2023, ADB disbursed 6 loans and 1 grant for 4 sovereign projects and 2 programmes.
