The planned agreement on mineral resources between the United States (US) and Ukraine was not signed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky left the White House early after a disagreement with Donald Trump.
The most important item on the agenda of the two leaders was the minerals agreement negotiated between Ukraine and the United States and the war with Russia. US and Ukrainian officials were working on an agreement on the exploitation and sharing of strategically important mineral resources. Zelensky demanded that security guarantees be included in this agreement. However, the agreement was not signed after the negotiations failed to reach a conclusion and after a disagreement in the Oval Office between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump. This caused a strain in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The cancellation of the planned joint press conference is considered as a public reflection of the disagreement between the two countries. US and Ukrainian officials stated that they will continue negotiations to resolve the dispute. This development is seen as an important turning point for the future of economic and strategic cooperation between the US and Ukraine.
