The United States has stopped the supply of weapons and military equipment to Ukraine due to the lack of budget funds for such programmes.
This was confirmed by John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the White House National Security Council (NSC), at a regular briefing for journalists, according to the Report.
“Yes, we have removed the last package from the existing stockpile that we have funds to support,” the White House official said, commenting on Washington’s arms deliveries to Kiev.
“It is critical that the US Congress act on this supplemental national security budget request for Ukraine so that we can get more funding,” Kirby said. “The assistance we have been providing has now come to a standstill,” the NSC official emphasised. According to Kirby’s assessment, “the need to provide new US weapons to Kiev, especially during the winter months, is now very acute.”
About four months ago, Washington sent Congress a supplementary budget request for the US fiscal year 2024, which begins on 1 October, primarily to help Israel and Ukraine and to counter China and Russia in the Asia-Pacific region. The executive branch, headed by US President Joe Biden of the Democratic Party, wants to receive a total of around $ 106 billion for these purposes.
