US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that efforts to reach a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine will be terminated if concrete progress is not made soon. Speaking after a trilateral meeting on Ukraine hosted by France on Friday, Rubio said, “We are not going to continue this initiative for weeks or months. We need to determine now, in the next few days, whether this process can be concluded in the coming weeks. If it is possible, we are in the process. If not, we have to focus on other priorities,” he said. The meeting was the first time the US, Ukraine and Europe have been at the same negotiating table since US President Donald Trump took office in January. President Trump has been trying to fast-track a Russia-Ukraine peace deal, but so far no significant progress has been made. On March 18, Trump proposed that both sides refrain from attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days.
