The United States believes that in the near future it is necessary to start negotiations on reforming the UN Security Council.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made this statement in his speech at the Future Summit at the UN Headquarters, APA reported, citing TASS.

‘The United States is in favour of the immediate start of negotiations on reforming the [UN Security] Council,’ Blinken said.

The Secretary of State said Washington believes that two African countries and Latin American and Caribbean countries should be granted permanent membership in a reformed UNSC, while island developing states should be granted non-permanent membership. He added that the United States would continue to seek permanent seats in the UNSC for Germany, India and Japan.
