European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson has said that the EU countries are preparing to stop transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
According to Simson, the agreement on transit of Russian gas through Ukraine will expire at the end of 2024, APA reports citing RIA Novosti. She specified that the EU does not expect gas shortages against this background.
‘We are aware of the termination of this agreement and we are fully prepared for it,’ the European Commissioner noted.
She specified that gas reserves in the European Union are at the level of 95 per cent, this will avoid shortages of blue fuel, as well as keep prices at a stable level.
Before that, TASS reported with reference to Gazprom that the transit of Russian gas to the EU countries through the Ukrainian territory on Saturday, 12 October, amounted to 42.3 million cubic metres per day.
According to the company’s press service, the supply is carried out through the Suja gas metering station. An application to pump fuel through the Sohranivka gas metering station was rejected by the Ukrainian side.
