Vladimir Zelensky rejected the peace initiative, the country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban said
Hungary proposed Ukraine to establish a cease-fire for Christmas and to exchange prisoners of war with Russia, but Volodymyr Zelensky rejected this peace initiative. This was reported by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
“At the end of Hungary’s EU presidency, we made new efforts to achieve peace. We proposed a Christmas ceasefire and a large-scale exchange of prisoners. Sadly, President Zelensky today unequivocally rejected this proposal and ruled it out of consideration. We did everything we could!” – Orban wrote in X.
The prime minister did not specify how the peace proposal was sent to Zelensky and, accordingly, how the response was received. Diplomatic channels are actively used by the two countries, with their embassies operating in Budapest and Kiev.
Earlier on Wednesday, Orban held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. One of the main topics of their conversation was ways to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. After that conversation, the Hungarian government confirmed that Orban would continue his peacekeeping mission on Ukraine. On Monday, the prime minister discussed the topic while visiting U.S. President-elect Donald Trump at his Florida estate, and earlier at the Vatican in a meeting with Pope Francis.
