Serbia may allow research on the development of nuclear energy.

Nenad Popovic, minister in charge of international economic co-operation in the Serbian government, told TASS in an interview.

‘The moratorium still exists, and we have been talking with the head of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev and the leadership of Rosatom about when it will be lifted, if it will be lifted – and we expect this moratorium to be lifted – then Rosatom is ready to provide the Serbian side with the potential that Rosatom has both in the construction of large nuclear power plants and in the construction of mini-nuclear power plants,’ he said.

The minister noted that Russia is the world leader in the construction of state-of-the-art nuclear power plants.

‘But while the moratorium exists, we have a lot of potential for developing co-operation in the field of peaceful atom. And we will need to develop human resources with Rosatom or some other structure,’ Popovic pointed out.

According to him, Serbia and Russia today need to concentrate on the potential for the development of peaceful atom.
