The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is committed to supporting Turkmenistan’s transition to a more sustainable and climate-adapted economy through various environmental and energy-efficient projects.
The director of ADB’s permanent mission in Turkmenistan, Arthur Andrysiak, told Trend exclusively.
‘Under the country partnership strategy with Turkmenistan for 2024-2028, ADB will support the country in its efforts to achieve sustainable development, adapt to climate change and improve competitiveness,’ he explained.
The bank representative noted that the support will focus on green transformation in all sectors of the economy.
‘In particular, the priority will be to reduce emissions and develop decarbonisation of the economy in the energy, transport sector, agriculture, water resources and urban infrastructure. The Bank plans to strengthen Turkmenistan’s national energy grid, improve its efficiency and climate resilience, and ensure greater integration of various renewable energy sources. The initiatives involve additional financing to improve the grid and enhance Turkmenistan’s ability to export electricity to regional markets,’ he said.
