Finland will soon announce the location of NATO Forward Land Forces (FLF) on its territory.
This decision was announced on Friday by Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen, the Report reported, citing Interfax.
This region is expected to be a region in Lapland, in the north of Finland.
The minister had previously said that the headquarters of NATO ground forces in Northern Europe would be located in Mikkeli, 105 kilometres from the border with the Leningrad region. The official decision will be taken at a meeting of NATO defence ministers next year.
Häkkänen said Finland would play a leading role in the new headquarters in Mikkeli and that the commander of the Finnish Land Forces would be its chief.
The decision to establish the NATO regional headquarters in Mikkeli was justified by the fact that the Finnish Armed Forces already have a land forces headquarters in the city. The headquarters is scheduled to start work next year.
