Kyrgyzstan plans to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.
According to the report, this was announced by President Sadyr Zhaparov at the UN General Assembly session, as quoted by the press service.
‘We are putting forward our candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027-2028,’ Zhaparov said.
The President stressed that Kyrgyzstan, which has never been elected to this ‘key UN body’ before, is counting on the support of all member states of the organisation in the elections to be held in New York in June 2026.
‘If elected, Kyrgyzstan will continue to advocate for a more effective and transparent Council, as well as the expansion of membership with balanced regional representation. It is time to correct the lack of representation of African countries in the Council and to eliminate the historical injustice that 60 Member States, including Kyrgyzstan, have never been elected to the Security Council, while individual states have been elected several times,’ he said.
