German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke in favour of early reform, expressing the view that the structure of the UN Security Council no longer fits the spirit of the times.

According to the Report, the German leader was quoted by the press service of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

‘(The UN Security Council) meets according to the standards of a long time ago, many continents and many countries that should be permanently or repeatedly on this Security Council are not represented,’ Scholz told reporters on the margins of the Future Summit.

Scholz also said that Russia’s position on the Pact for the Future, adopted before a general political debate at the 79th session of the General Assembly, was misunderstood.

It should be noted that the Future Summit will take place at the UN headquarters in New York on 22-23 September. The main goal of the Summit is to discuss global challenges and develop common solutions by world leaders, experts and civil society. Three key documents were adopted at the Summit: The Future Pact, the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations.
