Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan plan to build a 2,450-kilometre-long DC power transmission line within the framework of the ‘green’ energy transfer project.
Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, told Trend: ‘We are currently actively working on the preparation of the feasibility study of the project. Within the framework of this project, it is planned that DC power transmission lines will pass through Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia and reach European markets.’
Laziz Kudratov also noted that Uzbekistan is also actively developing wind power generation projects with a total capacity of up to 10,000 MW, especially in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In the near future, it is planned to finalise the draft Intergovernmental Agreement on the implementation of this ambitious project.
It should be noted that the heads of the energy ministries of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation on interconnection of the energy systems of the republics on 1 May at the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
The purpose of the memorandum is to define the basic conditions for cooperation within the framework of the project on interconnection of the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
The document assumes that the participants intend to explore the possibilities of interconnecting the energy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan by laying a high-voltage cable along the Caspian Sea bed and on the territory of other countries with the implementation of the most technically and economically optimal in terms of ‘green’ energy trade.
