In the first half of 2024, Kazakhstan increased the sea transport of oil exported through Azerbaijan.

This was stated in the report of KazMunayGas JSC (national oil and gas company) on the results of the first half of 2024, Trend reports.

Thus, during the reporting period, the volume of oil transport by sea increased by 26.4 percent to 6.618 million tonnes.

‘The growth was due to an increase in oil transport through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which transports oil in Mediterranean waters, as well as increased volumes in Caspian Sea waters along the Aktau-Makhachkala and Aktau-Baku routes,’ the report said.

At the same time, there was a decrease in the volume of transport in the Black Sea waters, explained by repairs at the Petromidia plant and NATO military exercises.

Kazakhstan transported 1.392 million tonnes of oil through BTC in 2023, which is 5.5 times more than in 2022.

Let us remind that in 2022, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to increase the volume of oil transported through the Trans-Caspian corridor. In accordance with this instruction, JSC NC KazMunayGas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed an agreement on the transportation of 1.5 million tonnes of oil per year from the Tengiz field through the ‘Baku – Tbilisi – Ceyhan’ pipeline.

In addition, during the visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Azerbaijan on 11-12 March, KazMunayGas and SOCAR signed an agreement to increase the volume of oil transport through BTC to 2.2 million tonnes per year.
