The European Union (EU) is extremely concerned about the prosecution of opposition leaders in Venezuela. This was stated by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Peter Stano, RIA Novosti reports. “We are deeply concerned. We call on the authorities to stop this, this campaign of intimidation and judicial intimidation of the opposition,” Stano said. Asked whether the European Union would take any action against Venezuela, Stano said it depended on a discussion of the situation by all member states of the union. Earlier it was reported that the Venezuelan General Prosecutor’s Office had opened cases of usurpation of state functions, dissemination of false information to incite unrest and incitement to criminal acts. It also accused former presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and opposition leader Korina Machado of inciting riots. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said law enforcement officials detained more than two thousand rebels.
